What Is a Gimbal?

A gimbal is an angled, pivoted support which allows rotation about an inclined axis.gimbal A pair of two gimbal, one on each side with orthogonal pivot axes, can be used in conjunction with a fifth wheel to enable an object mounted on either inner or outer gimbal to stay completely independent of the angular momentum of the support. These devices are often used in applications requiring assembly or disassembly of parts that require isolation from one another. This can include handling of electrical components or of delicate mechanical components. They are useful for applications where removal of parts is possible without compromising the stability of the device. They also provide ease of mobility.

The two axes of a gimbal system are the two tilt axis and the two linear axis. The tilt axis is usually locked into position using a magnetic force. Alternatively, the system can be provided with a second lockable axis, which rotates around a fixed pivot point. A number of attachment points are available to attach these alignment systems to other parts.

The linear axis is commonly controlled by a potentiometer or a Vibrating Massager. A Vibrating Massager provides an external vibration source to induce impulses into the two pitch axes. The two pitch axis typically have their own mechanisms for controlling the magnitude and direction of the orientation of the angular movement of the object. This allows the user to create precise orientations and speeds for a wide range of applications, including manufacturing applications and robotic manipulation.

One type of gimbal that is commonly used is the tilting or level position stabilizer. These types of devices are designed to help maintain a level or accuracy in the height of a product or component. Typically, such devices consist of two motors: one to raise the platform and the other to lower it. The motor that raises the platform is typically powered by a DC motor. Meanwhile, the motor that lowers the platform is generally powered by an AC motor.

Most videographers will find that the benefits of the tilting, level and leveling stabilizers far outweigh those of a simple one holding camera. If a videographer is not using a simple one holding camera, the stabilizers are a vital feature. A level or accuracy in the heights of products and components can be extremely detrimental to a videographer's reputation. Using a gimbal with these types of stabilization systems can eliminate the need for a cumbersome holding device, thus improving the quality of their videos.

Of course, the most common use for these gimbals is to stabilize the movement of a person or a product. The stabilization of a person and their movements is often the basis of a good video, so it only makes sense to use a gimbal head with stabilization features. Some gimbals have a built in waist tray to stabilize the movement of the head while holding the camera. There are also numerous accessories available for gimbal heads that offer additional functions. They may include attachment straps, extending rods, camera stands and more.
